The first drawer (my first drawer)

I've always seen dovetailed drawers - everyone says they are the best.  It was now time for me to try my hand at it.

Dad loaned me his Porter-Cable dovetail machine - new in the box - but no instructions.  It seemed fairly simple, place one piece of wood vertical, the other horizontal, then run the router w/dovetail bit thru the grooves.  It was a piece of cake on the 3/4" test pieces.  but, after many trial-n-error cuts on the 1/2"... I finally figured out the correct settings.

The wood has been clamped into the machine (rt side)

The wood has now been routed (rt side) creating the dovetails for one corner of the drawer - only 3 more to go.

WOW, it fit... the finished dovetail corner of my first drawer! ->

a couple of shots of the closed drawer, complete with drawer front.

Notice the wave of the "curly" Birch in the photos above, compared to this one?

WOW - the drawer even glides in an out smoothly!!!
